The sub-compact SUV segment is one of the most popular car segments in the country. Now, there is already a huge number of SUVs in this segment from various automakers. However, despite the fierce competition, Skoda India is planning to launch a new car in this segment. Recently, a new test mule of this forthcoming sub-compact SUV from Skoda was spotted testing. This new test mule reveals a few key details about this SUV.
Skoda Sub-compact SUV Test Mule
It’s stated that this new SUV will be competing with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and others. This means that it will measure under 4m. Coming to the details revealed by the new test mule. The first highlight was its boxy design.
This new model, just like its elder sibling Kushaq, will boast a boxy and squared-off body. On the front, it will get a split headlamp design. On the top, there will be LED DRLs which will also act as turn indicators.
Additionally, the main LED headlamp setup will be positioned in the middle of the front fascia. There will also be the new and modern-looking Skoda Butterfly grille on the front. It will come equipped with a sizable air dam on the lower front bumper. There will be a honeycomb pattern grille covering this air dam.
Side Profile
Moving on to the design of the side profile. As stated above, it will feature a boxy silhouette with equal proportions. There will be squared-off wheel arches like the Kushaq, and it will also get 16-inch steel wheels in the lower spec trims.
The one that has been spotted was seen fitted with these wheels and blacked-out wheel covers. Apart from these, roof rails were seen on top of the test mule.
Rear End
At the rear, the test mule was seen with similar LED taillights as the Kushaq. Other reasons that confirm why this test mule was a lower spec variant, there is no rear defogger, wiper, or shark fin antenna. Additionally, no cameras were seen equipped in this particular test mule.
Interior
These test mule images do not reveal the interior of this SUV. However, it was noted that there could be a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen in the middle of the dashboard. Apart from this, we can expect the car to come with a similarly laid-out cabin as the Kushaq.
Powertrain
Coming to the powertrain side of things, it is believed that the company will be offering this SUV with its smaller petrol engine. This 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine is seen on the Slavia and Kushaq SUVs.
It will most likely produce a maximum power of 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque. As for the transmission options, it could be offered with a 6-speed manual as well as an automatic transmission option.
Launch and Competition
As for the reports, this new SUV will most likely be launched in 2025. However, the company has not revealed the exact launch dates for this SUV.
Once launched, it will be competing with the likes of the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra 3XO, Kia Sonet, and Hyundai Venue in India.
