Morris Garages, popularly known as MG, stepped into the Indian market in 2017 with their compact SUV, the Hector. MG has been updating the Hector from time to time with the facelift version launched in January 2023. Now, MG has introduced a new iteration of the Hector which is the Blackstorm edition. Today, we will cover the details of this new variant with the help of a YouTube video uploaded by Bunny Punia.
Before stepping into the details, let’s first understand what exactly the Blackstorm Edition is. Similar to Dark Edition in Tata cars, Blackstorm is MG’s name for their totally blacked-out cars. The Blackstorm edition was first introduced in the flagship Gloster SUV, followed by the Astor.
This edition comes only with cosmetic changes and no mechanical changes. The MG Hector Blackstorm edition is available in five, six and 7-seater configurations with the six and 7-seater options being offered in Hector Plus. However, this edition is available only in the top end variant of the car which is the Sharp Pro.
The host starts with the front look of the SUV. At the front the MG hector features big chrome grille which has been replaced with black chrome grille to match the theme. In addition to the grille, all other chrome elements and headlight glasses are darkened.
Coming to the side profile, as expected, the alloy wheels are also black. The SUV comes with all four disc brakes, which now have red-colored calipers, giving it a sporty look and adding contrast. The chrome parts on body cladding, door handles and window garnish have also been replaced with the dark chrome elements.
Similar changes are done to the rear which includes darkened taillights and replacement of normal chrome elements with black chrome. After the exterior, the host shows the SUV’s cabin. Following the dark theme, the interiors of the SUV are also all black.
The interior also features darkened silver and chrome accents, which further complement the theme. However, the host mentions that there is no contrast in the interior. Adding to the same, he suggests that some red accents could be added in the cabin at multiple laces such as dashboard, seat stitching and around the gear lever.
The Hector is loaded with features such as a vertically mounted infotainment system, 60-degree surround camera, six airbags, wireless charger, automatic climate control, digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, and Level 2 ADAS features.
Regarding the engine specifications, the 7-seater Hector Blackstorm is only available with a diesel manual, while the five- and 6-seater versions come with both petrol CVT and diesel manual options. This edition is also not offered in the petrol manual. For those who don’t know, the Hector and Hector Plus do not have an automatic diesel option.
MG Hector is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 141 Bhp and 250 Nm of torque and comes paired to a six-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. On the other hand, the diesel engine produces 168 Bhp and 350 Nm of torque and it is available with a six-speed manual only.
