  • The new flagship SUV is said to use an AMG-dedicated electric architecture.
  • It will share its underpinnings with other AMG EVs, including a super sports sedan.
  • The SUV is expected to hit the market in 2026, with a possible “Vision” concept giving us a preview.

The world of performance SUVs may soon gain a new member from Mercedes-AMG. The Affalterbach-based brand is reportedly working on a new flagship SUV offering based on a bespoke EV architecture with over 1,000 hp of power. The yet-unnamed model is rumored to hit the roads in 2026, serving as AMG’s electric answer to the plug-in hybrid BMW XM.

Mercedes-AMG already has several SUVs in its lineup but all of them are based on existing Mercedes-Benz models. Unlike those, the new model will be a pure AMG product, allowing a greater focus on performance and driving dynamics.

Our speculative rendering imagines an aggressively styled model with a sporty coupe-SUV stance and borrowing cues from the Vision AMG concept. It has already been confirmed that the latter will evolve into an electric super sports sedan in 2025.

Both the SUV and the sedan will ride on the new AMG.EA underpinnings. The 800V electric platform will feature a high-performance battery pack, and axial flux electric motors by Yasa exclusively developed for AMG. The combined output is rumored to exceed the psychological barrier of 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS), transmitted to all four wheels. We expect the next-gen AMG EVs to feature sophisticated torque-vectoring abilities, a self-leveling active suspension system, and four-wheel steering.

In terms of size, the upcoming SUV is said to be similar to the existing Mercedes-AMG GLE 63. Citing anonymous sources, Autocar reports it will measure around 5,100 mm (200.8 inches) long with a wheelbase stretching over 3,000 mm (118.1 inches). These numbers place it right against the BMW XM, as well as the Lotus Eletre, Aston Martin DBX, and Lamborghini Urus.

The flagship Mercedes-AMG SUV is planned to be produced at the Sindelfingen factory in Germany, alongside its sedan sibling. The latter will arrive first in 2025, followed by its high-riding sibling in 2026. However, we expect to learn more about the SUV sooner than that, as Mercedes-AMG will likely preview its design with a “Vision” concept.
