Generally, when automakers launch new generations of their popular models, they offer decent discounts on the current generation models. However, the country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, is different. Recently, it has been announced by the brand that it has hiked the pricing of the current generation Swift hatchback. This price hike is a bit confusing as the company is about to launch the new Swift on May 9.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Price Hike

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has increased the pricing of the Swift by Rs 25,000. This particular hike is a substantial increase for the model. Now, why exactly Maruti has hiked the price of the Swift in India is currently unknown. As stated above, this hike comes at an odd time.

The company on May 9th will be launching its brand new fourth-generation model. So normally, when a carmaker launches a new generation model, they reduce the price of the outgoing model. This is done to get rid of any old stock before new cars arrive.

Not the First Hike This Year

For those who may not be aware, Maruti Suzuki back in January of this year also hiked the price of Swift. At the time, except for the base LXI and automatic transmission variants, the prices of the Swift were hiked by Rs 5,000.

Currently, the entire buzz is around the upcoming fourth-generation Swift. The model has already gone on sale in Europe and other international markets. In India, the company will be launching it on May 9.

The new model will boast a host of exterior design upgrades. It will get a brand new front-end design with a new grille, sleeker LED headlights with L-shaped LED DRLs, and a new bonnet.

It will also get new 16-inch alloy wheels and traditional door handles on all four doors. On the rear, the car will also get a set of new C-shaped LED taillights. It will also come with a new, more aggressive-looking rear bumper as well.

The biggest highlight of the new Swift will be its brand-new engine. It will come powered by a Z-Series 3-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol engine. The power figure will be around 82 bhp and 112 Nm of torque.

It will come equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. The international models get a CVT transmission; however, the India-spec model will most likely get an AMT transmission.

Also, the Indian model could also miss out on the 12V mild hybrid system offered in international models. There is also an All-Grip AWD system offered in the international Swift which will not be coming on the Indian Swift.

Grand Vitara Price Hiked As Well

In addition to the Swift, the company has also increased the price of another vehicle. And this vehicle is the Grand Vitara. Interestingly, Maruti Suzuki has only hiked the price of the Sigma variant of the Swift.

This variant has now become Rs 19,000 more expensive than before. Apart from this variant, none of the other variant’s prices have been hiked by Maruti Suzuki.
