Force Motors is soon going to launch the 2024 version of its Thar competitor, the Gurkha. Along with the updated 3-door version, Force Motors is also going to launch a 5-door Gurkha to compete with the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar. The company released a new teaser on its YouTube channel for its Gurkha SUV, showcasing the key highlights and features. Let’s delve into the details of the Gurkha facelift.
The teaser shows us key features and changes in the car’s interior and exterior. These changes include:
• A fully digital instrument cluster – Currently, the Gurkha has two dials and a small MID in the middle, which will be replaced with a fully digital cluster. The teaser clearly shows the cluster with engine temperature on one side and fuel level on the other. The tachometer is placed in the centre above the gear indicator. Upon closer inspection, it can be noticed that the upcoming Gurkha will also feature a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
• A new infotainment screen—Force Gurkha gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The teaser showcases the Gurkha with a much bigger screen. Details about this display are unknown, but it will be bigger and come with a lot more features.
• 3 door & 5 door options—Force will also launch a 5-door Gurkha to compete with the upcoming 5-door Thar. Rumours suggest that the Gurkha could also come with a 7-seat option, which will have a bench seat in the second row and two individual seats in the third row. Regarding the 3-door versions, the Gurkha offers much more space and a bigger boot than the Thar.
• 4×4 selector – The current version of Gurkha had two levers, one for gear and one for a 4×4 selector. The 2024 facelifted version will replace the 4×4 lever with a knob which looks much cleaner. However, the system for engaging differential locks remains the same.
The Gurkha will continue to be powered by the same 2.6-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine pumps out 91 BHP and 250 Nm of torque, which is much less than Mahindra Thar’s 2.2-litre diesel engine, which produces 130 BHP and 300 Nm. In addition to this, Thar also offers a 4×2 version, petrol engine option, and automatic transmission, which the Gurkha lacks.
The expected launch date of the 3-door and 5-door Gurkha is sometime in April-May. On the other hand, the 5-door Thar will be launched on the 15th of August. Details about the pricing are unknown yet, but we can expect the Gurkha 5-door to be priced at around Rs. 17 lakhs in the ex-showroom. Force Motors will have to price the 5-door Gurkha very aggressively if they want to eat up the market share of the 5-door Thar before it is launched. On the other hand, the 3-door Gurkha will witness some nominal price increments.
The 5-door Thar, which could be called the Thar Armada, is slated for an August 15th debut. It will borrow its powertrains from the three door Thar, but is expected to have a higher state of tune to deal with the extra weight. The engines of the Thar Armada are likely to be of the same tune as the Scorpio-N.
