French car manufacturer Citroën unveiled its upcoming SUV with a coupe-like design last month. We have seen studio images of the SUV since the unveiling. After the official unveiling, the Citroën Basalt has been spotted testing on Indian roads without any camouflage. Citroën is expected to launch the SUV sometime later this year.
The spy pics of the upcoming Citroën Basalt have been shared by Rushlane on their website. In the images, we see a grey or silver-colored Basalt SUV stuck in city traffic. It looks like the car was spotted somewhere in Chennai, as the manufacturer has a facility there. The front of the SUV looks similar to the C3 and C3 Aircross SUVs already available in the market.
The Chevron logo extends to be a part of the front grille, meeting the LED DRLs. The headlamps on this upcoming SUV look like halogen units. It is possible that the car spotted here was a lower variant. The higher version of the SUV will likely get projector or LED headlamps.
The front bumper has a muscular design to give it a more SUV-like appearance. Even the side profile of the SUV looks almost the same as the Citroën C3 Aircross. Moving to the rear, you start noticing the sloping coupe-like design of the roof, designed in a way that is unlikely to affect the headroom of the rear seat passengers.
The sloping roof meets the rear windscreen, which meets the tailgate. There is a small design element on the tailgate that looks like a lip spoiler. In the leaked images, we see that the SUV is missing out on the alloy wheels. We see Citroën branding on the tailgate, but the Basalt badge was nowhere to be seen. This was probably not put in place by the manufacturer, as it is a test mule. We also see thee LED tail lamps in these images.
Citroën has revealed the exterior of the SUV completely to the world; however, we are yet to see the interiors. We are expecting the interior to look the same as those seen in the C3 and C3 Aircross SUVs, with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and multi-function steering wheel.
It remains to be seen if Citroën will offer features like automatic climate control, cruise control, push start button, and electric ORVMs with the upcoming Basalt. The upcoming Basalt is also part of the Citroën C-Cube program, under which Citroën has already launched models like the C3, eC3, and C3 Aircross.
The Citroën Basalt will be offered with a petrol engine option only, using a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine already used in the C3 Aircross. This engine generates 110 PS and 190 Nm of peak torque, offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Just like other Citroën models, the Basalt is also likely to offer customization options from the factory. When launched, the SUV will compete with the Tata Curvv and Mahindra XUV e.9 also a compact SUV with a coupe-like design. The upcoming Citroën Basalt is expected to be priced somewhere in the Rs 10-15 lakh bracket.
