The Denza Z9 GT packs three electric motors and has BYD’s innovate Blade battery

A few short days after the first images of a camouflaged Denza Z9 GT prototype were published online, photos and specifications of the new EV have been released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Denza, which is 90% owned by BYD and 10% by Mercedes-Benz, sold 10,279 vehicles in the first quarter of 2024 and the promised specs of the Z9 GT are bound to help boost demand for the brand’s models. MIIT data reveals it has three electric motors, with one up front delivering 308 hp (230 kW) and a pair at the rear, each delivering 322 hp (240 kW). All up, the car pumps out 952 hp (710 kW).

The company hasn’t provided acceleration figures for the car but says it tops out at 240 km/h. Like so many other EVs out there, the Z9 GT is extraordinarily heavy, tipping the scales at 2,875 kg, making it heavier than a Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Specifications for the battery pack have not yet been announced but it should be quite a sizeable unit. We also know it will use BYD’s Blade design.
Details of the car reveal that it is 5,180 mm (203.9 inches) long, 1,990 mm (78.3 inches) wide, and stands 1,500 mm (59 inches) tall, with a lengthy 3,125 mm (123-inch) wheelbase. This makes it approximately 130 mm (5.1 inches) longer than a Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo and 53 mm (2 inches) wider while sitting slightly higher. It is also much larger than its nearest rival, the Taycan Sport Turismo, which is around 4,963 mm (195.3 inches) long depending on specification, and rocks a 2,900 mm (114.1-inch) wheelbase.
Visually, the Z9 GT is quite dramatic. The front end rocks a pair of angular headlights and a sculpted bumper with large air intakes and dramatic creases running over the hood. The bold looks continue along the sides with wheels designed to maximize aerodynamic efficiency, flush door handles, and dramatic creases. Setting the rear of the Z9 GT apart from all other Shooting Brake models on the market are intriguing LED taillights, a roof spoiler, and a secondary spoiler that can deploy from the decklid.
