2025 BYD Shark: Plug-in hybrid ute spied undisguised

The 2025 BYD Shark plug-in hybrid ute has broken cover earlier than expected, with an undisguised version of the upcoming model being filmed in Mexico.

AutoDinámico uploaded a video of the BYD Shark, as it could be called, being loaded onto a tilt-tray tow truck in Mexico without any camouflage.

Its full-width LED light bar leads to C-shaped headlights, framing the large BYD logo on its grille. The ute also features a rugged silver bash plate.

Black front and rear bumper mouldings as well as wheel arch protectors feature, while a rear sports bar is located behind the rear window and on the rear tub.

The BYD Shark’s wheels incorporate a machined face with black spokes, with black highlights also seen on the side steps and window pillars.

As previously reported, the BYD Shark is due in Australia during the second half of 2024, with examples of the plug-in hybrid already spied testing.

Overseas reports have claimed the BYD ute will first launch as a plug-in hybrid, mating a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors for a combined system output of 365kW.

Interior photos previously published have shown a centre console-mounted shifter, physical toggle switches, a free-standing digital instrument cluster and a rotatable infotainment screen.

No price for the BYD Shark has been announced as yet, though it’s expected to be brand’s most expensive model on sale locally, eclipsing the $68,748 before on-road costs sticker price of the Seal sedan.
