Over the last few years, Maruti Suzuki cars have gained the reputation for not being as safe as some other major car brands in India. However, it has now been reported that the company’s three popular models have done very well in Bharat NCAP tests. As per a BusinessToday report, Maruti Brezza, Baleno, and Grand Vitara will be receiving five-star safety ratings from BNCAP.
At the moment, the exact scores from the tests have not been revealed. However, if the reports are true, this could mean that all three cars will pass with flying colors in BNCAP tests. It was reported back in January of this year that Maruti Suzuki has sent the above-mentioned cars to Bharat NCAP testing.
The three vehicles sent by the company to BNCAP are its premium offerings in the Indian car market. Currently, none of the Maruti Suzuki Arena cars have been sent for testing. However, it was stated by Maruti Suzuki that it will be offering more cars for crash testing.
Maruti Suzuki Cars Crash Testing
Over the last few years, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has not particularly performed well in crash safety testing. Some of its affordable budget segment vehicles like the Alto K10 and Wagon R have scored poorly in the past.
Both of these cars did not earn more than 2 stars for adult occupancy. And because of these low scores, a lot of safety-conscious buyers have neglected Maruti Suzuki’s credibility. These poor crash testing results have had a negative impact on the brand.
Maruti Brezza Crash Test
The Brezza has proved itself to be a popular choice in the sub-compact SUV segment. Its previous-generation model, which was called the Vitara Brezza, earned a much better 4-star adult occupancy rating.
However, the 2 stars for child occupancy in Global NCAP’s 2018 testing was a small setback for the SUV. So far, since its launch back in September of 2022, the premium compact SUV Grand Vitara has not undergone global safety testing.
Maruti Suzuki Swift is on its way
The country’s largest carmaker is gearing up for the launch of the all-new Swift. This new fourth-generation Swift is expected to launch this month. However, the exact dates have not been revealed. For this new generation, the company has modernized the Swift from outside as well as inside.
As for the main highlight, it could come powered by a strong hybrid powertrain. This new powertrain will employ the newly introduced Z-Series 3-cylinder petrol engine. Reports suggest that it will offer around 30-35 kmpl mileage. A few months down the line, the Dzire based on the new Swift will also be launched in India.
Apart from this, it has also been reported that the company has delayed the Start of Production (SOP) of its first electric car, the eVX, by 5 months. Originally scheduled for September 2024, the eVX production will now begin in February 2025. This means that the launch will also be pushed ahead in India as well as the international markets.
