Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster Is A Pricey Pickup That Starts From $86,900

  • While U.S. starting price starts at under $87,000, options can increase the price significantly.
  • Ineos is selling the Grenadier Quartermaster in three different trims.
  • Orders opened this week and deliveries will start by the end of the year.

Americans in the market for a rugged, off-road pickup truck now have a compelling new option to choose from with the local launch of the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster. Priced from $86,900, the new model is based on the regular Grenadier SUV, which the company refers to as the Station Wagon and has been available for a couple of years starting from $71,500 in the States.

Much of the Quartermaster’s design is identical to the standard model, although it is now a pickup rather than an SUV. Interestingly, it has a 305 mm (12-inch) longer wheelbase than the Station Wagon. Three variants have been announced; the regular $86,900 Quartermaster, the $94,900 Trailmaster Edition, and the $94,900 Fieldmaster Edition, with all prices excluding destination fees.

Several new components distinguish the Trailmaster Edition and Fieldmaster Edition from the base model. These include front and rear differential locks on the Trailmaster as well as a Smooth Pack with a rear-view camera, front park assist, heated wing mirrors, heated windshield washer jets, and auxiliary charge points.

Additionally, the Fieldmaster gets intelligent speed assist, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and driver drowsiness detection, mirroring the features of the Trailmaster. Perhaps the most intriguing feature of the Fieldmaster are the two safari windows on the roof. It also gains leather trim, a premium audio system, and heated front seats.

While playing around with the configurator, we were able to spec out a Fieldmaster Edition for $113,212. Not cheap then.

However, as pointed out by Autonews, one of the reasons for the Grenadier Quartermaster’s high cost is its production alongside the Grenadier SUV at Ineos’ plant in Hambach, France, which renders it subject to the 25 percent U.S. tariff, commonly referred to as the Chicken Tax, imposed on foreign-made trucks.

While the Grenadier Quartermaster is also available with a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter straight-six diesel in other markets, the only option in the States is BMW’s 3.0-liter straight-six gasoline engine, delivering 282 hp and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission featuring a manual overdrive function.

The Grenadier Quartermaster doesn’t have any direct rivals in the U.S. Among the most off-road-focused pickups in the U.S. include the likes of the Ford F-150 Raptor and Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 but the Ineos is more expensive than both of them. It is also quite similar to the Jeep Gladiator but again, is positioned as a more premium option. In markets like Australia, its closest competitor will be the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series.
