  • The GMC Hummer EV 2 had been expected to launch with around 625 hp.
  • CarScoops has reached out to GM seeking additional clarification on recent reports.
  • Current entry-level Hummer EV Pickup and SUV models start at $96,550.

A new entry-level trim for the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and SUV priced from around $80,000 has reportedly been scrapped, just before the model was anticipated to be launched onto the market.

GM had been developing the more affordable base edition for the Hummer EV, known simply as the ‘2’. It was expected to borrow some components from the pricier 2X, including its dual-motor powertrain, but was intended to hit dealerships with fewer features and a smaller battery pack.

However, a report from GM Authority claims that GMC has killed plans for this version. The website did not provide any sources for its information. In a statement issued to CarScoops, a GM spokesperson described the report as “speculation.”

“We don’t comment on speculation or future product plans,” the spokesperson said. “HUMMER EV momentum is accelerating; we’re continuing to ramp up production and sales every day and just had a record Q1.

The so-called EV 2 variant of the all-electric Hummer was expected to start at around $80,000. It was speculated to have a power output of 625 hp with 7,400 lb-ft (10,033 Nm) of wheel torque, figures that, while respectable, are lower than the 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft (15,591 Nm) of the existing model.

Additionally, GMC might have removed certain special features such as the adaptive air suspension, CrabWalk mode, and rear-axle steering from the current Hummer EV lineup. While these features are desirable, they also contribute to higher costs.

If indeed the 2 trim level has been ditched, the prices for the entry-level GMC Hummer EV2X Pickup and SUV models would stay fixed at $96,550. For those desiring enhanced performance, the option of the EV3X with three electric motors remains available, starting at $104,650.
