Alfa Romeo’s new baby SUV has been leaked again ahead of its imminent reveal, giving us a better look at its front and rear ends.
The Alfa Romeo Milano was previously seen in leaked images last September, but these latest images – shared on Instagram by cardesignworld – reveal an unusual take on the brand’s traditional scudetto shield grille.
The new crossover will be revealed in full at 1am AEST on Thursday, 11 April.
Not immediately visible in previous images, we can see the grille area is finished in the same colour as the body, but with a cutout in the shape of the biscione – or grass snake – and cross that make up Alfa Romeo’s logo.
Despite the elements of the logo featuring prominently on the grille area, there’s a traditional Alfa Romeo badge on the bonnet.
Behind the grille cutout, we can see a mesh insert. The lower grille area features a different pattern for its insert.
The headlights are in the shape of a lower-case B on its side, with contrasting trim underneath that connects to cutouts, bookending the shield.
Down back, we can see the large assembly that incorporates the tail lights, which runs across the tailgate and then curves downwards.
The Milano also has prominent shoulders and a rakish rear window. The rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillar, as on the old Giulietta hatchback.
Alfa Romeo has previously claimed the Milano will offer “best-in-class driving dynamics”, with “precise steering geometry to guarantee quick cornering with a high level of grip”.
While we don’t know any powertrain specifications, we do know the Milano is based on the e-CMP platform which also underpins the Jeep Avenger, the upcoming Lancia Ypilson and the Fiat 600.
The Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600 both measure around 4.1 metres long and 1.8 metres wide, suggesting the Milano could be of a similar size.
Leaked images have revealed that, as with the related Avenger, it will offer the option of combustion power.
In markets like Italy and Spain, the Avenger is offered with a turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 74kW of power, mated with a six-speed manual transmission.
The electric version could share the baby Jeep’s 115kW/260Nm electric motor, 54kWh nickel manganese cobalt lithium-ion battery and 400V electrical system. It offers 400km of WLTP range.
Jeep says a 100kW DC charger can take the Avenger’s battery from 20 to 80 per cent in 24 minutes.
The Milano will be Alfa Romeo’s first EV, ahead of electric replacements for the current Giulia and Stelvio plus a new electric flagship.
