Citroen is set to unveil its latest offering, the Basalt Concept SUV Coupe, as part of its C-Cubed Program on March 27th, 2024. This unique offering is characterized by its slanting, coupe-styled roof, setting it apart from competitors in its price range.

With a length of around 4.3 meters, similar to the C3 Aircross, the Basalt Concept will primarily rival upcoming models such as the Tata Curvv. Price-wise, it will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, and others. Reports suggest that the coupe SUV could be launched at a price range of Rs. 10-15 lakhs.

“All-new Citroën Basalt Concept – Citroën’s compact SUV Coupé for India. Developed especially for the needs and desires of consumers in India, its first forms will be revealed on March 27th, at 4:30 PM (IST).” Citroen India wrote on X platform.

The teaser for the Citroen Basalt Concept showcases its distinctive rear sloping roofline, which is very different from traditional SUV designs. Other things that can be noted in the teaser are the shark fin antenna and the square-shaped LED taillights.

The Basalt will be based on the CMP (Common Modular Platform) platform, which is used in numerous other cars of the Stellantis group. It will also borrow some parts from the C3 Aircross and have a nose design similar to the C3 Aircross.

Test mules suggest exclusive features at the front and rear, including changes to the grille, bumper, and fog lamp housing. However, shared features such as the headlamps and LED DRLs maintain continuity with Citroen’s existing lineup.

Inside, the Basalt Concept is expected to inherit several features from the C3 hatch and C3 Aircross, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument display, and connectivity features. Safety is also prioritized, with features such as ESP, hill hold, tyre pressure monitoring system, rearview camera, parking sensors, ABS with EBD, and six airbags as standard.

Features such as electric-folding wing mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, LED headlamps, push-button start and keyless entry are also expected. Overall, the Basalt will offer more features than the C3 Aircross. Recently, Citroen has started focusing on providing customers with a more value-for-money product that’s feature-loaded. This was not the case with previous models of the brand.

Powering the Basalt is likely to be the same engine option as the one found in C3 Aircross—a 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit producing 110 hp and 205 Nm of torque. This engine could be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter. Whether the Coupe SUV will be named Basalt Concept or C3X remains to be seen, but it represents Citroen’s bold step forward in the Indian market, signalling a new direction for the brand.

As anticipation builds for its debut, there are hopes for improved safety compared to previous models, especially considering the 0-stars scored by the eC3 in GNCAP assessments. The Basalt Concept aims to redefine the compact SUV segment with its distinctive design and feature-packed interior, offering Indian consumers a unique choice.
