Tata Motors, a prominent name in the Indian automobile sector, has silently introduced some minor updates to the Tiago EV hatchback for 2024. These updates have enhanced the appeal of the Tiago.EV without any increase in its price. The EV is still available at a starting price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), going up to Rs. 11.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end trims.
The Updates:
The most noticeable change is the addition of Tata’s new 2D logo across all the variants, replacing the previous 3D logo. Additionally, all variants from the XZ+ trim onwards now come equipped with a pollen filter and a 45 W front USB type C charger. No cosmetic changes have been made to the EV.
The top-of-the-line XZ+ Tech Lux variant receives an auto-dimming interior rearview mirror (IRVM) for added convenience. Moreover, Tata has introduced a new gear selector knob across all variants of the Tiago EV. These updates aim to enhance the overall appeal and functionality of the hatchback.
Tiago EV
Launched in September 2022, the Tiago EV targets customers who are looking for an eco-friendly option for their daily driving needs. Based on the popular hatchback Tata Tiago, the Tiago EV is a compact car, which makes it very suitable for city driving. It is one of the most affordable EVs available on the Indian market, second only to the MG Comet, which incidentally got a price drop recently.
The Tiago EV retains the design of the regular Tiago but gets some EV-specific changes. These include a blanked-out grille with a teal blue accent, new alloy wheels, and special EV badging. The overall design is clean and modern, making it a stylish choice for eco-conscious drivers.
The EV comes in four variants: XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech Lux. Charging options are a very important aspect to consider while buying an EV. The Tiago EV supports charging from a regular 15A plug point, a 3.3 kW AC charger, a 7.2 kW AC fast charger, and even a DC fast charger. Using a DC fast charger can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 58 minutes, making it an optimum choice for long journeys.
In terms of safety, the EV comes equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, corner stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Tiago.ev rivals other EVs in its segment, such as the Citroen eC3, Tata Punch, Tata Tigor EV, and MG Comet, which are available at a similar price point.
However, the car also rivals larger hatchbacks and sub-4 meter compact SUV due to price overlap. Notably, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Punch, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza are some other challengers of the Tiago.EV.
It’s worth noting that in February 2024, Tata reduced the prices of the Tiago by up to Rs 70,000 due to a decrease in battery cell costs, making the Tiago EV even more affordable. With these updates, Tata aims to further strengthen Tiago’s position in the electric vehicle segment, offering enhanced features and competitive pricing to attract customers.
