Car buyers in India want to have the best of everything; however, they do not want extremely high price tags. So, to fulfill these demands, automakers of our country come up with unique offerings. They have even invented some new segments as well. The most notable ones are the sub-compact SUV and sedan segments, and also the compact SUV segment. However, now these automakers are creating a completely new segment called the budget Coupe SUV segment.
What is this new segment?
Just like the sub-compact SUVs and sedans, this new segment will be the coupe SUV segment, tapping into a completely new audience. Automakers are trying to provide a more premium experience to car buyers in the country with this new segment. It will boast the characteristics of the ever-popular SUVs mixed with the elegance of coupes.
Three Coupe SUVs coming
In the next few months, a total of three such unique coupe SUVs will be coming to India. Now if you are one of those people who are interested in getting something unique, here are the details of the three distinct coupe SUVs coming this year.
Tata Curvv Coupe
First off, the one SUV that will be starting the budget Coupe SUV segment in India. We are talking about the Tata Curvv. The company recently, at the Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo, showcased the diesel iteration of this SUV. As we all know, the main highlight of this SUV will be its rear-end design.
From the front, it will look almost the same as the facelifted Nexon. However, it’s the rear where the party gets started. It will feature a beautiful sloping roofline with a rising window line on the side.
It will also get bigger 18-inch alloy wheels, flush-type door handles, and a length of 4,308mm along with a wheelbase of 2,560mm. It will also get the same premium interior like the new Nexon facelift.
The Curvv Coupe has been confirmed to launch with multiple drivetrain options. The first will be a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Power output is rated at 113hp and 260 Nm torque. Additionally, an all-electric variant has also been confirmed. Lastly, it will also be launched with a petrol drivetrain as well.
Citroen Basalt
Unveiled just a few weeks ago, the French automaker is betting big with the Basalt coupe SUV. This unique-looking SUV will be based on the platform shared by the C3 and C3 Aircross. However, the company has completely transformed its appearance.
It looks very premium and will be launched in the second half of this year. From the front, it will look very similar to the C3 Aircross. On the side profile, the new Citroen Basalt will also come with the same flap-style door handles and smooth body lines.
Like Curvv Coupe SUV, it too will boast a sloping roofline and a very modern rear end. It will also get wraparound LED taillights and a pronounced decklid. The rear bumper has also been given a sporty appearance with silver claddings and contrasting gloss-black design elements.
At the moment, the company has not revealed its interior. Additionally, information on its drivetrain has also not been revealed by the brand. Most likely, it will get the same 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine.
It generates a maximum power of 110 PS and 205 Nm of peak torque. It will be offered with both a manual as well as a torque converter automatic transmission. An electric version is also on its way. It will be launched six months after the launch of the ICE Basalt.
Mahindra XUV.e9
The third and the last Coupe SUV on this list (for now at least) is the Mahindra XUV.e9. This upcoming coupe SUV from the SUV maker will be based on the XUV700. It will get connected LED headlights at the front. And it will look similar to the XUV700 on the side.
However, the rear will be the place it will get its uniqueness. It will get a butch yet classy-looking sloping roofline. The overall design of this SUV will make it one of the most premium-looking SUVs in the country once it’s launched in April 2025.
On the inside, it will get their connected 12.3-inch displays and a new two-spoke multifunctional flat-bottomed steering wheel. It will also get two rounded dials on the center console – one for managing drive and AWD modes and the other for transmission control.
As for the powertrain, it will come equipped with an 80 kWh battery pack and all-wheel-drive configuration with a two-motor setup. Reportedly, it will be able to generate a maximum power of 230 PS and 350 Nm.
